TRACE Info:
Description: CSL undertakes statutory surveillance programmes for residues such as pesticides and veterinary drugs (monitoring at border inspection posts) and has UK statutory responsibilities in areas such as GMO enforcement. This comprehensive portfolio of sophisticated monitoring and surveillance is supported by programmes of R&D projects mainly in method development to ensure that the most up-to-date methodologies are available to CSL. Frequently analytical work is undertaken for Governments outside of Europe or for food companies wishing to export to Europe. Training in food analysis has been provided principally to Government organisations internationally who have sent staff to CSL for periods of a few weeks to several months.
Follow-up visits of CSL staff have been undertaken to ensure that testing facilities are operating satisfactorily. Staff at team leader level have extensive international experience in running and participating in workshops as well as co-ordinating international activities. CSL has extensive experience internationally on food analysis with a network of contacts all over the world including international organisations such as WHO, FAO, IAEA, IUPAC (Food Chemistry Commission), ILSI, CEN and ISO.
